About the Role
As a Specialist, Radio Planning, you will be responsible for developing and improving Vodacom’s Radio Access Network (RAN) to ensure excellent network coverage, sufficient capacity, and high service quality. The position involves designing network expansion strategies, analyzing network performance, forecasting future traffic demands, and working closely with technical teams to implement efficient and reliable radio solutions across the country.
The successful candidate will also support the deployment of new technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement of Vodacom’s mobile network performance.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to plan and design radio networks for both new and existing mobile sites while ensuring optimal coverage and capacity. The role includes performing RF analysis, developing frequency plans, evaluating network performance indicators, and recommending improvements that enhance customer experience.
Additional responsibilities include supporting network expansion projects, conducting propagation modelling and coverage simulations, preparing technical planning reports, assisting with site selection activities, participating in network rollout and commissioning processes, and collaborating with optimization, deployment, transmission, and operations teams to ensure seamless network implementation.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or another closely related discipline. Professional certifications in mobile communication technologies will be considered an added advantage.
Candidates should also have 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in radio planning, network optimization, or mobile network engineering, with practical exposure to network deployment, RF analysis, and performance management.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge of radio network planning and optimization principles, including GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G technologies. Experience with RF propagation modelling, frequency planning, interference management, antenna systems, and network performance monitoring is highly desirable.
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), traffic forecasting, link budget analysis, transmission networks, and core network interfaces will further strengthen an applicant’s suitability for the position. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration skills are also essential for success in this role.
