    If you’re a recent graduate or young professional interested in innovation and international development, the World Food Programme (WFP) is offering a 12-month Youth Volunteer opportunity within its Innovation Unit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.     About WFP Tanzania’s Innovation Unit

    The Innovation Unit is responsible for identifying, testing, and expanding creative solutions that improve the effectiveness of WFP programmes. Working closely with public institutions, universities, technology innovators, startups, private companies, and development organizations, the unit introduces practical ideas that help communities improve food systems, nutrition, agricultural productivity, and resilience to climate change.

    Role Overview

    As a Youth Volunteer, you will contribute to a variety of innovation-focused activities, ranging from research and project coordination to stakeholder engagement and knowledge management. The position is designed to provide practical exposure to development programmes while allowing young professionals to build valuable technical and professional skills.

    Main Responsibilities

    Support Innovation Projects

    The volunteer will assist in coordinating innovation activities across different programmes by helping organize workshops, stakeholder meetings, innovation events, and collaborative projects involving government agencies, academic institutions, startups, and private sector partners.

    Conduct Research

    You will carry out research on emerging technologies and innovative approaches that can strengthen humanitarian and development programmes. Areas of focus may include climate-smart agriculture, digital financial solutions, renewable energy, circular economy practices, and other innovations relevant to food security.

    Knowledge Management

    The role also involves documenting project achievements, preparing briefing papers, developing case studies, maintaining innovation databases, and supporting the sharing of lessons learned across WFP programmes.

    Partnership Support

    The successful candidate will work with different stakeholders to strengthen collaboration between WFP and organizations involved in innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

    Expected Outputs

    Throughout the assignment, the Youth Volunteer will contribute to producing high-quality documentation, including:

    • Research summaries and analytical reports
    • Innovation project documentation
    • Workshop and event reports
    • Case studies highlighting programme achievements
    • Updated knowledge management resources

    Academic Requirements

    Applicants should have completed, or be completing, a university degree in a relevant discipline such as:

    • Innovation
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Business Administration
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Environmental Studies
    • Development Studies
    • International Development
    • Or another related field.

    Skills and Competencies

    Candidates should possess strong research, analytical, and organizational skills, together with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. The ability to work collaboratively in multicultural teams, manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate initiative will be highly valued.

    Experience using Microsoft Office applications and a genuine interest in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian work will be an added advantage.
