About the Role
The Legal Officer will provide legal support across the organization by ensuring that the company’s operations comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will advise management on legal matters, manage legal risks, review contracts, coordinate litigation, and strengthen the company’s compliance framework.
This position is ideal for experienced legal professionals seeking to contribute to the growth of a reputable financial institution while supporting sound corporate governance and risk management practices.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide legal advice to management and various departments on corporate, regulatory, and operational matters. The role includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and other legal documents to protect the company’s interests.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating litigation matters with external legal counsel, preparing legal opinions, supporting debt recovery processes, conducting legal due diligence, maintaining legal records, and ensuring the timely renewal of statutory licences and registrations.
The Legal Officer will also work closely with regulatory authorities and government institutions, monitor changes in legislation, support internal investigations, strengthen legal compliance systems, provide guidance during disciplinary processes, and deliver legal awareness training to employees to enhance organizational compliance.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
Admission to the Bar and possession of a valid Practicing Certificate will be considered an added advantage.
Candidates must have at least five (5) years of professional experience in legal practice or corporate legal affairs. Previous experience working with microfinance institutions, banks, financial institutions, law firms, or consultancy firms is highly desirable.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of corporate law, contract law, labour law, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management. Experience handling litigation, debt recovery, and legal documentation is essential.
Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills are required, together with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal management systems. The successful candidate should be able to work independently while maintaining high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
