About the Role
The Program Officer will serve as the regional focal point for health workforce interventions within the Lake Zone. The position focuses on coordinating and supporting programs that strengthen the capacity, performance, and availability of frontline healthcare workers. Working closely with government institutions and development partners, the successful candidate will help ensure effective implementation of health initiatives while contributing to improved healthcare services for communities across the region.
This role is well suited for professionals with experience in public health, health systems strengthening, and donor-funded programs who are committed to improving healthcare outcomes in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will coordinate the implementation of health workforce activities according to approved project plans, budgets, and timelines while ensuring that all interventions are delivered efficiently and achieve their intended objectives.
The role also involves supporting training programs, mentorship initiatives, supportive supervision, and professional development activities for frontline healthcare workers. In collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team, the Program Officer will collect and analyze program data, monitor project performance, document best practices, and prepare technical reports that support evidence-based decision-making.
Additionally, the successful applicant will maintain productive relationships with Regional Secretariats, Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs), health facilities, and other stakeholders to ensure program activities align with national health priorities. Ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies while producing high-quality technical and progress reports will also form a key part of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing, Health Administration, Social Sciences, or another relevant discipline. A Master’s degree will be considered an added advantage.
Candidates must have at least five (5) years of professional experience in health workforce development, health systems strengthening (HSS), maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), or donor-funded health programs.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Tanzania’s decentralized health system and experience working with regional and local health authorities. Excellent project coordination, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, report writing, and communication skills are essential for this role.
Applicants should also demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple activities while meeting project deadlines.
